Technician / Senior Technician THIRD SHIFT, MCVD Glass-Prep Process (2012-3) |

| Work hours: train Mon-Fri 2pm-10pm, Reg hours Sun 10pm-Fri 6am |
Summary
Regular employee; 40 non-exempt hours.
10pm-6am
Start Sunday 10pm
Finish Friday 6am
Overtime when required to meet deadlines is paid at 1-1/2 time with supervisory approval.
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs required.
Must be comfortable working with and around chemicals, open flames and glass.
Main Responsibilities
Prepping glass tubes and setting up MCVD lathes (Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition) Starting and running computer-controlled MCVD gas delivery systems and glass-working lathes Monitoring glass core rod runs and making adjustments as needed Troubleshooting problems as needed Documenting all process aspects of process runs Processing and measuring core rods after completion of MCVD runs Performing basic torch and lathe maintenance Assisting engineers as needed Taking over non-standard product runs once developed by engineers Other glass-working / glass preparation as necessary for production support Cross-training in other areas as needed
Education
High school graduate or equivalent experience; relevant technical or engineering-based associate degree or certificate program a plus
Experience
2+ years of industrial manufacturing experience required, preferably in a high-tech industry 2+ years of glass-working, telecommunications or fiber optics experience strongly desired
Knowledge / Skills
Basic computer literacy (Excel & Word necessary, with Access preferred) Glass-working with oxygen / hydrogen torches Glass-handling (<20 lbs) Fine-motor skills for manually manipulating glass Safe handling of liquid and gaseous chemicals Able to work in and out of cleanroom environments Must be conscientious and detail-oriented
Personal Attributes
Must be able and willing to work independently on tasks for long periods of time with minimal supervision. Reports to a supervisor and follows a set of standards and procedures to perform routine work. Seeks supervisory approval on non-routine matters. Participation in group discussions required to discuss and refine procedures and process improvements.
