Summary

Responsible for technical efforts to develop fiber lasers and/or amplifiers made to different levels of integration based on customer requirements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop, build, and test/characterize fiber-optic based lasers and amplifiers. These devices include world-class rare-earth doped large mode-area (LMA) fiber technology developed by Nufern.
  • Perform optical tests and measurements for fiber-based device characterization, using equipment such as OSAs, oscilloscopes, power meters, beam profilers, etc.
  • Troubleshoot subassemblies and systems.
  • Design experiments and perform detailed data analysis.
  • Coordinate with engineering/production personnel during product transfer to manufacturing.

Education

B.S. or advanced degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Hands-on lab experience in photonics/optics.
  • Experience in one or more of the follow areas:
    • Fiber laser or optical amplifier experience preferred.
    • Optical fiber experience preferred.
    • Optical test and measurement equipment used for characterizing fiber laser and amplifiers such as power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, beam profilers.
    • Use and integration of electrical and mechanical components
