senior engineer (mILITARY & AEROSPACE LASER PRODUCTS) (2008-4W)

Summary
Rersponsible for technical efforts to develop fiber lasers and/or amplifiers made to different levels of integration based on customer requirements.
U.S. citizen or Green Card required.
Main Responsibilities
- Research, develop, build, and test/characterize fiber-optic based lasers and amplifiers to various levels of integration. These devices will include, but are not limited to, cutting-edge, rare-earth doped large mode-area (LMA) fiber technology developed by Nufern.
- Utilize large diameter fibers/splicing technology to design/integrate standard and custom optical components.
- Perform optical tests and measurements for fiber-based device characterization, using equipment such as optical spectrum analyzers (OSAs), oscilloscopes, power meters, beam profilers, etc.
- Incorporate appropriate mechanical and electrical components at the system level.
- Conduct technical interactions with optical/electrical/mechanical component vendors.
- Design experiments and perform detailed data analysis on subjects including non-linear optical phenomonena, and reliability.
- Liaise with customers and sales personnel during design and develop processes.
- Coordinate with engineering/production personnel during product transfer to manufacturing.
Education
B.S. or advanced degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Hands-on lab experience in the optical field.
- Experience in one or more of the follow areas:
- Fiber laser and optical amplifier experience preferred.
- Rare-earth doped, large-mode areas ("LMA") optical fiber experience a plus.
- Optical test and measurement equipment used for characterizing fiber laser and amplifiers such as power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, beam profilers.
- Non-linear optics
- Use and integration of electrical and mechanical components
- Design of experiments and analysis of data
