Summary

40 non-exempt hours.

2pm-10pm Monday-Friday.

Overtime when required to meet deadlines is paid at 1-1/2 time with supervisory approval.

Training period is first shift. Job hours will move to 2nd shift hours of 2pm-10pm.

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs required.

Main Responsibilities

Responsible for glassworking on standard production preforms within Nufern’s cleanroom facility.

Performing a wide variety of glassworking operations with a Hydrogen/Oxygen torch and glassworking lathes.

Acid etch cleaning and prepping of glass tubes, core rods and performs.
Starting and running computer controlled Overcollapse glass working lathes .
 
Monitoring glass jacketing runs and making adjustments as needed.
 
Troubleshooting of basic process and equipment problems as needed.
 
Documenting daily work and all process aspects of process runs.
 
Perform basic torch and lathe maintenance.
 
Learning basic in-process Quality Control inspection and testing.
 
Interacting with fiber draw team to receive feedback on work.
 
Assisting technologists and engineers as needed for developmental work.
 
Other glass-working as necessary for production support.
 
Cross-train in other areas as needed.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent experience.


Relevant technical or engineering-based associate degree or certificate program a plus.

 

Experience

2+ years of industrial manufacturing experience required.

2+ years of glassworking, telecommunications or fiber optics experience strongly desired.
       

Knowledge / Skills

Basic computer literacy (Excel & Word necessary, with Access preferred).

Glass working with oxygen / hydrogen torches.
 
Glass handling (<30 lbs).
 
Fine motor skills and dexterity for manually manipulating glass.
 
Safe handling of liquid and gaseous chemicals (typically hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid and acetone).
 
Able to work in and out of clean room environments.
 
Must be conscientious and detail-oriented.

 

Personal Attributes

Must be able and willing to work on solitary tasks for long periods of time with minimal supervision.

Reports to a supervisor and follows a set of standards and procedures to perform routine work.
 
Seeks supervisory approval on non-routine matters.
 
Participation in group discussions required to discuss and refine procedures and process improvements.
