EAST GRANBY, CT - February 22, 2011 - Nufern, a leading U.S. manufacturer of specialty optical fibers, fiber lasers & amplifiers and fiber optic gyro coils announced today the introduction of the NuCOAT double-clad fiber series, based on next generation low index polymer coating technology specifically engineered for use in high power fiber lasers.
"The latest generation coating technology is the result of several years of research into the key factors affecting performance and reliability of double-clad fibers, as well as the components based on these fibers, now used in a host of fiber laser products worldwide," says Nick Jacobson, Director of Process Engineering at Nufern. "Our dedicated R&D team working closely with fiber manufacturing have years of experience qualifying optical fiber coatings for telecom and demanding fiber optic gyro applications, including a wealth of Telcordia and other industry qualification procedures, that determine industry standards for fiber reliability and lifetime requirements. We are able to bring these disciplines to double-clad fibers and have agreed with independent component suppliers the critical tests to differentiate the various low index polymer coatings currently supplied by multiple fiber suppliers. We believe this will go a long way towards making users of fibers and fiber lasers feel confident about the reliability and compatibility of the whole fiber laser supply chain".
Nufern's extensive range, covering more than 50 products, of standard double-clad fibers, including both active and passive fibers, are now available with the latest generation NuCOAT coating and are available on the Nufern website (www.nufern.com). These fibers are manufactured to industry leading mechanical and optical tolerances on all the key optical parameters, ensuring uniformity across the entire fiber laser platform. The resulting uniformity and efficiency helps to ensure high yield when the fiber is used in device manufacturing. All Nufern fibers are produced under an ISO 9001:2008 certified quality management system.
