Dr. Bryce Samson (Nufern Vice President of Business Development) has been elected to the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE) by its membership. Dr. Samson was nominated and elected for the CASE membership after meeting multiple membership requirements and accomplishments. Specifically, the Academy cited his technical and business accomplishments for pioneering contributions to the development of fiber lasers for scientific and defense applications. His noteworthy contributions include development of the world’s first chalcogenide glass fiber laser, the first glass-ceramic fiber laser, some of the world’s first kilowatt class fiber amplifiers operating at 1 and 2 microns and recent research to develop large mode area fibers. His contribution to commercialization of fiber lasers has brought significant high-tech, manufacturing jobs to Connecticut.
“This is a great honor and is made possible by all the collaborators at Nufern and elsewhere over the last 20 years, I look forward to serving the State as a member of the CASE academy” said Dr. Samson who received his Ph.D. from Essex University, United Kingdom. Dr. Samson is credited with over 100 contributed and invited publications, 15 patents, chapters in books and tutorials on optical fibers and high power fiber lasers.
