East Granby, CT – Thursday, December 4, 2014 Dr. Mansoor Alam (Director Sensor Business, Nufern) and Dr. Kanishka Tankala (VP of Specialty Fiber Business, Nufern) will host a free Laser Focus World webcast titled "Fiber Optic Sensors – Fundamentals, Principles and Applications”.
The behavior of physical and chemical systems is governed primarily by their operational environments. Hence, there is a great deal of interest in sensing and eventually predicting system performance as a function of environmental changes. Due to significant advances in the general area of photonics, photon-based sensing is available and the preferred choice of measurement for many applications. Here alterations in light interaction with matter as a result of changes in the surrounding environment are exploited to sense the system behavior.
In this webcast we focus on optical fiber sensing technology. Fundamental concepts will be presented first, followed by the underlying principles and techniques of sensing. Finally, selected applications will be discussed. Prime focus will be on optical fiber, which is the key enabling component for optical fiber sensing. Relevant fiber designs and their key characteristics for selected applications will be discussed.
