EAST GRANBY, CT - May 18, 2004 - Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of fiber intensive fiber laser modules and specialty optical fibers, announced today a polarization maintaining (PM) Panda-style Erbium-Ytterbium (Er/Yb) co-doped, double-clad fiber for high power (energy) fiber lasers and optical amplifiers used in military, industrial, and medical applications.
Demonstrating high pump conversion efficiency and high power operation without efficiency roll off, Nufern's PM-EYDF-18/250 fiber is designed for use not only for emerging industrial and medical applications, but also for the military at eye-safe wavelength (1550nm) for laser range finding and LIDAR.
Nufern's PM-EYDF-18/250 offers two important attributes much needed for continuous wave and pulsed fiber lasers and amplifiers at 1550 nm. The PM Panda-style configuration enables the design of lasers and amplifiers with linearly polarized output. In addition, the large core/clad ratio (18/250), enables, design of short length pulsed amplifiers capable of delivering much higher pulse energies and peak powers than conventional Er/Yb fibers with single mode cores.
