DALLAS, Texas - September 16, 2002 - Nufern, the largest independent provider of application-specific optical fiber, announces its release of C-band erbium-doped 80 micron fiber, EDFC-980-HP-80. Designed for use in components that require a tighter bend radii for compact packaging, Nufern’s EDFC-980-HP-80 can be powered with 980 nm or 1480 nm pumps.
“ Through a proprietary solution-doping technology we are able to deliver erbium fibers with highly consistent and reproducible spectroscopy,” says Nufern Scientist, Dr. David Machewirth. “Nufern’s extensive characterization labs and statistical process control plant provide fiber with the kind of detailed characterization data and tight optical and mechanical tolerances needed by amplifier manufacturers. The 80 micron form factor makes it ideal for use in new smaller size amps for metro network applications.”
Nufern’s EDFC-980-HP-80 has a peak absorption near 1530 nm of 6.0 ± 1.0 dB/meter, a cut-off wavelength of 920 ± 50 nm, and a typical numerical aperture of 0.23. This fiber has a core-clad concentricity error of < 0.3 µm to ensure low splice loss and comes with a standard 200 kpsi proof strength for high reliability. Each lot of Nufern’s erbium-doped fiber is furnished with extensive lot specific characterization data.
