Nufern Expands Its Line of 80 Micron Select Cut-Off Fibers - For Smaller Form Factor Second Generation Components

EAST GRANBY, Conn. - September 6, 2002 - Nufern Expands Its Line of 80 Micron Select Cut-Off Fibers - For Smaller Form Factor Second Generation Components. Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of application-specific optical fiber, has expanded its line of 80 micron select cut-off single-mode fibers to include 1310 nm, 1310 nm medium NA, and 980 medium NA. These fibers are designed for use in small form factor components that require tight bend radii including couplers, pump diode fibertails, and metro amps.

“ Component manufacturers have asked for a broader range of products to optimize small form factor designs,” said Nufern Senior Engineer, Michael O’Connor. “Our 80 micron line addresses this need while our 80 micron medium NA fibers allow manufacturers to control power budgets based on the type of fiber selected and achieve lower bend loss.”

Nufern’s 1310-HP-80, 980M-HP-80, and 1310M-HP-80 join the class of high performance fibers offering tight optical tolerances and testing to 200 kpsi. The core-clad concentricity of these fibers is less than 0.5 µm to ensure low splice losses. The 980M-HP-80 has a numerical aperture of 0.17, while the 1310M-HP-80’s numerical aperture is 0.16. Both are optimized for low bend loss. As with all Nufern products, Nufern 80 micron select cut-off fibers provide high lot-to-lot uniformity and are tested to Telcordia standards.
