SAN JOSE, California - January 28, 2003 - Nufern Expands Double-Clad Capabilities - Includes Polarization Maintaining (PM) in Panda-Type Configuration. Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of application-specific optical fiber, introduces double-clad fibers for high power lasers and amplifiers. These double-clad fibers feature low-NA, single-mode, large-mode area or multimode cores, incorporating a variety of dopants with large area, high-NA claddings. Nufern Double-Clad fibers include Panda-type polarization maintaining (PM) versions.

Developed to meet the rising demand for high-power, high-brightness fiber sources, double-clad fiber application areas range from military to industrial, where these fibers enable efficient, compact sources that directly compete with high-power solid-state lasers. In particular, the ability to obtain high-power, polarized output from Panda-type PM double-clad fibers extends the application areas, removing one of the last advantages for traditional solid-state lasers over fiber.
