Nufern Introduces Large-Mode-Area Ytterbium-Doped Double-Clad Fiber - Higher Power/Energy Output for New Fiber Laser Applications

ATLANTA, Georgia - March 24, 2003 - Nufern Introduces Large-Mode-Area Ytterbium-Doped Double-Clad Fiber - Higher Power/Energy Output for New Fiber Laser Applications. Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of application-specific optical fiber, introduces large-mode-area (LMA) Ytterbium (Yb)-doped double-clad fibers for high power (energy) fiber lasers and amplifiers used in military, industrial, and medical applications.

An addition to Nufern’s custom double-clad fiber capabilities for next generation high power fiber based sources, LMA Yb-doped double-clad enables efficient, compact, diode pumped fiber sources that directly compete with traditional solid-state lasers. Nufern LMA Yb-doped double-clad fiber features a 20/400 core/cladding size delivered with a low NA (0.06) core allowing a typical mode field area several times larger than standard double clad fibers to provide higher output.
