Munich - June 23, 2003 - Nufern Introduces New Specialty Multimode Fibers to Support Power Delivery. Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of application-specific optical fiber, introduces a full family of multimode step-index fibers to support the diode laser power delivery market. Available immediately are industry standard 105/125 core/clad ratio with 0.22 NA, and 200/220 core/clad ratio with 0.12 NA. These fibers are designed for compatibility with the majority of fiber-coupled, single-emitter, diode-laser packages on the market today.
“ Compatibility with other components such as couplers and diode pumps is clearly a critical issue for customers commercializing fiber lasers,” says Kristoff Feliksik, Nufern’s product line manager for multimode fibers. “Our new multimode product line is aimed at both diode laser manufacturers and coupler manufacturers since both are key components in any fiber laser design.”

According to Feliksik, multimode fiber for diode laser power delivery is an expanding market, particularly as the demand grows for suitable pump sources for double-clad fiber lasers. “Nufern has a full portfolio of double-clad fibers, and diode delivery fibers are a natural extension of our laser fiber product line offering customers a complete suite of fibers for this growing market,” adds Feliksik.

Available upon request are extensions of this product line which include 200/220 with 0.22 NA and fibers with intermediate NA’s such as 0.15. Larger fiber diameters (400 µm core diameter and larger) for diode-bar and stack power delivery are made to order, ensuring compatibility between high power pump sources and Nufern’s extensive range of double-clad fibers.
