SAN JOSE, California - January 28, 2003 - Nufern Introduces Line of RGB Fibers - Available in Doped and Pure Core Silica. Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of application-specific optical fiber, introduces its line of RGB fibers. Available in both germanium-doped and pure core silica versions, Nufern RGB fibers have low attenuation and are offered in wavelengths as low as 400 nm. Nufern Pure Core Silica fibers provide lower optical loss, and are resistant to radiation and photodarkening.

“ Compact UV sources in both medical and sensor applications are continually moving to shorter wavelengths, requiring low loss from the delivery fiber at these wavelengths,” says Nufern Vice President of Operations, Kanishka Tankala. “Resistance to photodarkening will become critical as the output power delivered from 405 nanometer diodes increases to meet the demands of the read/write CD market. Nufern pure core silica RGB fibers are well suited for these demanding applications.”

“ In addition, our RGB line allows customers to select the optimum fiber for a particular application at the best cost,” says Tankala. “For low power applications a germanium-doped fiber may be best versus a more costly pure core silica fiber. For a more demanding application over a longer length, however, the performance of pure core silica outweighs its cost, in terms of product life and power budget.”

Each lot of Nufern’s RGB fiber is furnished with extensive lot specific characterization data.
