Nufern Introduces Telecom Fiber Product Line Available with Flame Retardant Buffer  

Dual wavelength, bend insensitive fibers available with UL94 V-0 rated
PVDF secondary buffer

EAST GRANBY, Conn., March. 7, 2005 — Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of fiber laser and amplifier modules and specialty optical fibers, announced today the first in a series of flame retardant telecom fibers available with 900 micron UL94 V-0 rated PVDF secondary buffer. The PVDF buffer is available in natural color or any of the 12 standard cable colors. Customer specific identification printing on the buffer is available upon request. This buffered fiber has a -40°C to +85°C operating temperature range and is processed such that there is virtually no buffer shrinkage over its operating temperature range. The same fiber is also available in a 245-micron standard acrylate coating.

The initial fiber in this series operates at both 1310 nm and 1550 nm and has reduced bend loss sensitivity in the key telecom 1550nm band, while maintaining low splice loss to industry standard SMF-28 fiber achieved through careful waveguide design. The fibers are proof tested to 200 kpsi and are manufactured with industry leading tolerances on the main optical and geometrical parameters.
