Nufern Licenses United Technologies Patent Portfolio
UTC license includes fiber laser technology patents

EAST GRANBY, CT – May 18, 2004 — Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of fiber intensive sub-assemblies and specialty optical fibers, announced today that it has licensed a portfolio of patents from United Technologies Corporation (UTC).  The portfolio includes patents relating to fiber lasers, such as fiber lasers having Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) based lasing cavities and fiber lasers having a MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) design.  Scientists at UTC’s Research Center did some of the early work on fiber lasers using FBGs, such as FBGs transversely written with ultraviolet light.
