EAST GRANBY, CT - May 23, 2006 — Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of fiber laser and amplifier modules and specialty optical fibers, announced the release of the NuAMP-SF series of high power, polarization maintaining (PM), single frequency fiber amplifiers. These monolithic amplifiers are designed to operate in conjunction with ultra narrow linewidth, single frequency seed lasers based on DFB fiber lasers or solid state technologies (e.g., NPRO lasers).
“This new product includes just the right level of integration for many of our customers” says Dr. Andy Held, Vice President of Sales. “The amplifiers include integrated diodes with auto shut-down interlocks, tap monitors to measure input and output signal, and optical isolators to negate potentially damaging back reflections into the amplifier and seed source.”
The standard amplifiers accept low power input at ~ 1 micron with kHz linewidth to produce 10 Watts of output. A 2 Watt and 5 Watt version are also available along with non-standard versions at 1550 nm. All models use Nufern’s industry leading large mode area fiber technology to overcome non-linear effects such as Brillouin scattering. The proprietary amplifier design maintains critical seed laser characteristics such as narrow linewidth, relative intensity noise and polarization extinction ratio.
Nufern’s single frequency PM amplifiers offer efficient, optical performance and reliability with a range of applications including sensing, range finding, LIDAR, atom trapping, helium pumping, and spectroscopy.
