Nufern releases higher Yb concentration 30/250 PM fiber

Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of fiber laser and amplifier modules and specialty optical fibers, announced today the expansion of their NuPOWER line of active fibers.

The new PLMA-YDF-30/250-HI is a polarization maintaining (PM), large mode area (LMA), double clad fiber with a higher Ytterbium dopant concentration, and greater pump absorption, than Nufern’s existing 30/250 fibers. That higher concentration gives the fiber greater cladding pump absorption, resulting in reduced cavity length, which will allow the fiber to operate at higher peak pulse powers without exceeding non-linear thresholds. .

“The introduction of this high-concentration Yb fiber takes Nufern’s already highly regarded PM fibers to another level.” said Michael O’Connor, Nufern’s applications manager for laser products, “The quality and repeatability of our PM fibers is well known. This fiber will set new high-water marks for reliable fiber lasers for high power pulsed applications.”

Applications include short pulse or CW fiber amplifiers and lasers, materials processing, LIDAR, and range finding.

Nufern also has available a matched passive version of this fiber, PLMA-GDF-30/250, as the ideal component and delivery fiber for use with its active counterpart.
