Nufern, the largest independent manufacturer of fiber laser and amplifier modules and specialty optical fibers, in attendance this week at the LASER 2007: World of Photonics exhibition, announced the release of their first complete, fully functional industrial fiber laser.
The NuFIRE™ laser is a complete, high-performance 200 W ytterbium fiber laser system designed to offer unprecedented flexibility and ease of use. Nufern hopes the NuFIRE laser, with its new capabilities, “will streamline the process of adopting laser-based materials processing in manufacturing environments,” says Bryce Samson, VP of Business Development.
Initial setup is easy, with a standard wall plug, air cooling, monolithic architecture, 3RU form factor, and remote mountable I/O panel. An intuitive WindowsTM-based interface, including the industry’s first visual waveform generator, simplifies operation and makes method development—for virtually any application within the 200 W regime—accessible even to non-engineers.
With slew rates of 70 W/µs and precision pulse control to 5 µsec rise/fall time, the NuFIRE laser offers precise control of cut and weld quality. A maximum modulation frequency > 120 kHz at full power means that more power can be delivered to the work piece in a given time interval, resulting in higher throughput in the manufacturing environment. Capable of sustained CW or pulsed operation, the NuFIRE system features four on-board function triggers to switch instantaneously from one custom-shaped waveform to the next, further increasing throughput.
Nufern is the leading supplier of laser fibers worldwide. Its NuPOWER™ fibers, which power the NuFIRE laser, offer high conversion efficiency, superior long term power stability, and excellent beam quality.
