Nufern, a leading manufacturer of fiber lasers, optical amplifiers, and specialty optical fibers, announced today that it has been honored as Connecticut's fourth fastest growing technology company, in Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 awards program.

The Technology Fast 50 awards, presented by Deloitte & Touche in partnership with the Connecticut Technology Council, are awarded on the basis of percentage revenue growth over the five-year period 2002–2006. To be eligible, a company must own proprietary technology or intellectual property that contributes substantially to its revenues.

From 2002 to 2006, Nufern grew its revenues by almost 15 times. Nufern owns and licenses a valuable portfolio of patents and know-how related to the manufacturing of specialty fibers, fiber lasers, and optical amplifiers.

Sustaining this level of growth for five years has required the talent and dedication of every employee at Nufern, said Martin Seifert, President & CEO. He also credits the company's growth to a relentlessly customer-focused program of technological innovation. Our customers continually ask us for easier, more integrated, more turnkey solutions. And our motto is, We're listening. We take all of that input and use it to develop the next generation of fiber laser technology.

Founded in 2000 as a telecom startup, Nufern nearly collapsed in 2001 when the telecom bubble burst. In the years since, Nufern has reinvigorated its business by developing innovative new uses for specialty optical fibers. Today, Nufern produces a range of fibers and fiber laser products for industrial, military/aerospace and scientific applications and remains well-positioned to serve the recovering telecom market.

Nufern is a privately held, venture-backed company. Our investors have been very supportive of our strategic choices as we've worked to grow the business, said Alan Levesque, VP of Administration. We're pleased to be creating value at a rate that rewards their faith in us.
