Nufern Introduces NuSensor Fiber

EAST GRANBY, CT – January 21, 2010 -Nufern, a leading manufacturer of active fibers, fiber lasers and amplifiers, will introduce NuSensor fiber at Photonics West in San Francisco during the week of January 23-28, 2010.
 
This latest addition of NuSensor fiber is intended for down-hole sensing applications where the environment is harsh in terms of high temperature and high hydrogen pressure such as those that exist in Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) and Cyclical Steam Stimulation (CSS) well environments. Typically, such well environments include high temperature (200-350°C), high pressure (500-2000 psi) and high levels of molecular hydrogen (0-5 vol%). At such high temperatures and in the presence of hydrogen gas, optical fibers degrade and darken fairly rapidly. The NuSensor fiber is a multimode fiber with a graded index design in the 50/125 form factor and is available with polyimide coating. The graded index design allows for a relatively large bandwidth while the polyimide coating allows it to be used up to 300°C. The fiber exhibits intrinsic low loss and broad wavelength transmission in the 1000-1200 nm wavelength range which remains unaffected in high hydrogen environments up to 300°C. As a result, this fiber is an excellent candidate for applications such Raman based DTS in well bores.
 
Other applications where the NuSensor fiber could be used include hydrothermal well temperature measurements, signal transmission in uncontrolled wet environments and telecommunication in extreme radiation environments. The fiber is available in long proof lengths and high proof strengths. In addition, the fiber can be provided in a custom cable form.
