Nufern Expands Its Range of Fibers for 2 Micron Operating Wavelength

EAST GRANBY, CT – January 21, 2010 - Nufern, a leading U.S. manufacturer of specialty optical fibers and fiber laser/amplifiers, announced today it is expanding its range of fibers optimized for the 2μm operating wavelengths, with several new Tm-doped fibers as well as passive beam delivery fibers being introduced at Photonics West 2010.

Additions to the Tm-doped fiber family include the extension of the double clad series up to 40μm core diameter for applications requiring high pulse energy (LMA-TDF-40/400) and the introduction of a new 625μm clad diameter (LMA-TDF-25P/625). All the new Tm-doped fibers are based on Nufern’s proprietary, high efficiency core composition, specifically engineered for high power 793nm pumping.

“Our highly efficient Tm-doped fiber series has been a tremendous success since we introduced the first industry standard LMA fibers 3 years ago,” says Dr. Adrian Carter, CTO and Asia/Pacific Sales Director. “By expanding the family to include these latest additions we hope to see further penetration of 2μm fiber lasers & amplifiers, by customers introducing a variety of products using our Tm-doped fibers across the medical, Military/Aerospace and industrial markets.”

Nufern is also expanding the series of matched passive double clad fibers for the 2μm wavelengths, with the introduction of a new polarization maintaining fiber (PM1950-HP) specifically optimized for this wavelength to enable component manufacturers in the pig-tailing of 2μm fiber laser devices.

Each of these fibers are manufactured to exceptionally tight mechanical and optical tolerances. The resulting uniformity and efficiency helps to ensure high yield when the fiber is used in device manufacturing. All Nufern fibers are produced under an ISO 9001:2000 certified quality management system.
