EAST GRANBY, CT –January 24, 2012– Nufern, a leading U.S. manufacturer of specialty optical fibers, fiber lasers and amplifiers and fiber optic gyro coils, announced today it is expanding its fiber product line with the NuGYROTM series. This line of fibers features a wide range of both SM and PM fibers designed especially for fabricating optical coils for use in IFOGs.
The NuGYROTM line of fibers includes both Panda-style and elliptical clad polarization maintaining fibers, as well as a customized SM and other PM gyroscope fibers. All these fibers feature extremely uniform geometries making it easy to wind precision coils. Many of the fibers are available in radiation resistant designs suitable for space and aeronautical applications. Our Panda-style PM NuGYROTM fibers feature very high birefringence yielding low crosstalk and minimal mode coupling in coils. Most of these fibers are available with 80 µm clad diameters and a choice of either 125 µm or 170 µm coating diameters, suitable for winding small diameter coils. However, in order to maximize the fiber length on small diameter coils, fibers with 40 µm clad diameters and 90 µm coating diameters are also available.
Dr. Mansoor Alam, Director of Sensor Business states, “With the launch of the NuGYROTM line of fibers, Nufern expands its SM and PM gyroscope fiber product line and builds on its expertise in fiber design for small diameter coil applications and radiation resistant fiber technology. We anticipate that as the cost and complexity of fiber optical gyroscopes reduces the demand for these fibers will see considerable growth.”
All of Nufern’s fibers are manufactured to exceptionally tight mechanical and optical tolerances. The resulting uniformity and efficiency helps to ensure high yield when the fiber is used in device manufacturing. All Nufern fibers are produced under an ISO 9001:2008 certified quality management system.
